The Worlds of George R.R. Martin is an in-depth look into the enormous range of inspirations behind Martin’s work ­– from historical borrowings as wide-ranging as the Roman empire, the Wars of the Roses and the Mongol conquests, to diverse literary and mythological texts, as well as Martin’s own family experience and biography.

The cover features an illustration inspired by the heraldic designs of the great houses of Westeros, highlighted with spot varnish over a blood-red, on an embossed linen texture. Inside, the book is divided into sections representing the four distinct regions of Martin's world, with colours and iconography inspired by each.
